I got into marketing by accident. I was a nanny at the time with a small but growing family and was looking for work that brought in a little extra money, but soon, it became my profession and passion.

In 2012, my friend’s husband had a marketing agency, and he needed someone to help with the blog writing for his clients. I started writing blogs for the agency’s biggest client and soon found myself working full-time, writing blogs for all clients. From there, I moved on to creating and managing the agency’s digital ads, helping to increase brand awareness and ROI. After working at the agency for eight years, a client liaison was needed to facilitate and project manage client work, meetings, and client communications, so I moved into that role.

After ten years working at the agency, it was time to move on to an internal marketing director position with a small company. I loved creating a comprehensive, multi-channel marketing plan, finding and solving inefficiencies, growing brand awareness, and bringing in leads. While it was highly fulfilling work, it was clear that the business, born during COVID, was not growing as the owner projected as people’s lives went back to normal, and I was let go.

I knew agency life wasn’t what I wanted to go back to, and I was passionate about helping small businesses succeed in their marketing goals. From my years at the agency, I knew that small businesses often couldn’t afford agency retainers or a full-time in-house marketer, and often this meant haphazard marketing by team members who weren’t marketers.
